Detailed Information about botanical-garden

History and Significance

The Geneva Botanical Garden was founded in 1817 by the renowned Swiss botanist Augustin-Pyramus de Candolle (1778-1841). Originally, the garden was located in the Bastions Park in Geneva's old town, but due to limited space, it was moved in 1902 to its current location in Pregny-Chambésy, in the northern part of the city, on the shores of Lake Geneva.

Today, the garden is the largest public botanical garden in Switzerland and one of the most important botanical centers in the world. It plays a key role in scientific research, biodiversity conservation, and environmental education. The garden is part of global networks for the conservation of endangered species and maintains a seed bank with thousands of rare plants.
