Detailed Information about burgenstock

History and Significance

Bürgenstock is one of the most legendary luxury destinations in Switzerland with a rich history beginning in 1873, when the first hotel opened on the mountain ridge. In 1888, the funicular railway was built, connecting the lake level with the resort, and in 1904, the magnificent Palace Hotel opened, quickly becoming a favorite place of European aristocracy and Hollywood stars.

In 1905, the Hammetschwand Lift was built – Europe's highest outdoor elevator, which remains one of the most impressive engineering landmarks in Switzerland to this day. The elevator rises 153 meters through rock and an elegant tower in less than a minute, reaching a platform at 1,132 meters with an incredible 360-degree panorama.

Over the years, Bürgenstock has attracted world celebrities such as Audrey Hepburn (who spent much time here), Sophia Loren, Sean Connery, as well as royalty and heads of state. After a massive renovation costing CHF 550 million (2011-2017), the resort reopened in 2017 as a modern luxury destination, combining historic heritage with modern comfort.

Here you'll find Alpine Spa – a world-class 10,000 m² spa with indoor and outdoor pools overlooking the lake, hydrotherapy circuits, saunas, steam rooms, and treatment rooms.

3. Waldhotel

Waldhotel (Forest Hotel) is a cozy hotel located in the forest, with a focus on wellness and tranquility. Ideal for guests seeking peace and connection with nature.

4. Taverne 1879
