History
The history of Crans-Montana as a tourist destination begins at the end of the 19th century when it was discovered as a sunny and healthy place for the treatment of lung diseases. The first hotel was built in 1893, and soon after, the resort became a popular holiday destination for the European aristocracy. In the 20th century, Crans-Montana developed as a ski resort, hosting the Alpine Ski World Championships in 1987. Today, the resort is known for its perfect combination of sport, nature, and luxury.
Economy
The economy of Crans-Montana is heavily dependent on tourism. The resort attracts visitors year-round, thanks to the variety of activities it offers. In addition to tourism, viticulture and winemaking are also developed in the region. Crans-Montana is also known as an educational center with several prestigious international schools and a hotel management university.
