History and Architecture
The Parliament Building was constructed in three stages between 1852 and 1902. The central building, designed by architect Hans Wilhelm Auer, was completed in 1902 and is a masterpiece of Neo-Renaissance architecture. The facade is made of Bernese sandstone, and materials from all over Switzerland were used for the interior, symbolizing the unity of the nation. The iconic green copper dome is 64 meters high.
