Full Tour Description
Your driver will collect you from Andermatt, and soon after departure, the landscape will begin to change dramatically. The route over the Gotthard Pass is one of Europe’s most spectacular — a ribbon of road that winds between glaciers, waterfalls and rugged mountain peaks.
Crossing through the Gotthard Tunnel, you emerge into Ticino, Switzerland’s Italian-speaking region, where the air feels warmer and the rhythm of life slows. Vineyards climb the hillsides, cypress trees line the roads and terracotta roofs appear as you descend toward Lugano.
Once there, you’ll have two hours to explore one of Switzerland’s most graceful cities. Lugano blends Italian flair with Swiss precision — a place where lakeside promenades, Renaissance architecture and designer shops coexist effortlessly. Take a peaceful walk along Parco Ciani, visit Piazza della Riforma, or enjoy lunch overlooking Lake Lugano’s shimmering blue surface. If you love photography, the blend of mountains and palm-lined boulevards offers stunning backdrops at every turn.
Afterward, ascend Monte San Salvatore, often called “Lugano’s Sugarloaf” for its resemblance to the famous peak in Rio de Janeiro. The short funicular ride climbs steeply through lush forest until you reach the summit, where panoramic views await. From here, you can see the entire Lake Lugano basin, the Italian border and — on clear days — even the peaks of Monte Rosa far to the west. Enjoy a light refreshment at the summit café or simply breathe in the view — it’s one of Ticino’s most unforgettable experiences.
As afternoon approaches, your driver will guide you back through the same scenic route, tracing the valley northward until you return to Andermatt. By the time you arrive, you’ll have crossed not just geography, but worlds — from alpine stone to Mediterranean sun.
