Full Tour Description
Depart from your hotel in Bürgenstock, descending through forested hills toward the calm plains of Zug and Schwyz. The journey unfolds like a painting — one lake blending into the next, each with its own atmosphere and palette.
Your first stop is Cham, on the northern edge of Lake Zug, where you’ll find one of the region’s most peaceful promenades. The reflections of distant peaks ripple across the still surface, and early in the morning, the lake glows silver under the mist.
The route continues to Rapperswil-Jona, a jewel on Lake Zurich, nicknamed the City of Roses for the thousands of blossoms decorating its old town. Climb to the medieval castle, from where you’ll enjoy a sweeping view over the lake and the wooden bridge that stretches toward Hurden — the longest wooden footbridge in Switzerland. It’s an ideal place to pause for a coffee or gelato along the waterfront.
From Rapperswil, your driver takes you through rolling countryside to Willerzell and Lake Sihlsee, an unexpected highland reservoir surrounded by green meadows and dairy farms. Built in the 1930s, Sihlsee powers hydroelectric plants but has since become a sanctuary for birds and a favorite local retreat for peaceful fishing and picnics. The reflections of the nearby Einsiedeln Abbey towers glimmer faintly across the water.
A short drive brings you to Einsiedeln, one of Switzerland’s spiritual landmarks. The vast Benedictine Abbey, with its twin towers and ornate Baroque façade, dominates the town square. Inside, golden stuccoes and frescoes surround the Black Madonna, a venerated statue brought here in the 10th century. Take time to walk through the monastery’s interior, then browse local specialty shops selling herbal liqueurs and candles crafted by monks.
Continue your journey through the Schwyz region, passing through Lauerz and Ingenbohl, small lakeside villages resting between two worlds — the calm foothills and the majestic outline of Mount Rigi. Lake Lauerz itself feels untouched, reflecting the forests and cliffs of the Rossberg mountain, whose historic landslide in 1806 reshaped this entire landscape. It’s an ideal place for a short stop and quiet photos.
The final destination, Vitznau, opens to a grand panorama over Lake Lucerne. Elegant villas line the shore, boats drift lazily past, and the Rigi Bahn, Europe’s oldest mountain railway, begins its climb just above the village. Here, you can relax by the lake with a drink, walk the promenade, or simply enjoy the view before returning to Bürgenstock.
The return route follows the Lake Lucerne panoramic road, a beautiful drive that hugs the shoreline, offering final glimpses of sunlight over the water before you ascend back to your mountain retreat.
