Full Tour Description

Your private driver collects you from your hotel in Lausanne, and the journey begins through the Lavaux Vineyards, a UNESCO World Heritage landscape overlooking Lake Geneva. You’ll follow the Rhône Valley into the canton of Valais, a region of orchards, ancient villages, and majestic peaks. The road winds gently upward until you reach Täsch, the last village accessible by car before Zermatt.

From Täsch, a short 15-minute train ride (tickets included) brings you into the heart of Zermatt — a peaceful, car-free village where electric taxis and horse-drawn carriages move quietly between the wooden chalets.

Once in Zermatt, you’ll have around six hours to explore at your own pace. Start with a relaxed walk through Bahnhofstrasse, lined with artisan shops and restaurants offering Swiss specialties. The view of the Matterhorn appears constantly — perfectly framed between rooftops, trees, and mountain ridges.

For those seeking higher viewpoints, several alpine ascents await:

  • Gornergrat Railway (~2.5 h total): a cogwheel train rising 1,500 m to 3,089 m altitude. The summit platform offers sweeping views of the Matterhorn and surrounding glaciers.

  • Sunnegga Paradise (~1.5 h total): a quick funicular ride to a sunny terrace above Zermatt with easy walking paths and lakeside cafés.

  • Matterhorn Glacier Paradise (~3 h total): a multi-stage cable car leading to 3,883 m — Europe’s highest station — with panoramic decks and the Glacier Palace carved in ice.

Zermatt offers a wide range of lunch options, from alpine huts serving rösti and cheese platters to gourmet terraces like Chez Vrony with Matterhorn views. After enjoying the mountain air and scenery, you’ll return by train to Täsch, where your driver awaits for the comfortable drive back to Lausanne.

The return through the Rhône Valley offers one last glimpse of snow peaks fading into vineyards — a fitting close to a day that captures Switzerland’s alpine soul.
