Full Tour Description
Your private driver will meet you in St. Gallen, and your day begins with a scenic drive north through gentle countryside and along the southern shores of Lake Constance (Bodensee) — one of Europe’s great inland seas. The lake, shared by Switzerland, Germany, and Austria, has long been a crossroads of cultures, trade, and history.
After roughly 1.5 hours, you’ll arrive in Konstanz, a city that feels both lively and timeless. Unlike many European towns, Konstanz was spared from wartime bombing, which preserved its medieval core almost entirely intact. Its streets still reflect centuries of prosperity as part of the Holy Roman Empire and later as a trading hub for merchants on the lake.
Stroll through the Old Town, where colorful façades and narrow lanes lead to open squares filled with cafés and markets. At the center stands the Konstanz Cathedral (Münster), whose 76-meter tower offers a stunning view over the city and lake. Inside, you’ll find Gothic frescoes and crypts that trace the city’s Christian roots back to the 7th century.
Just a few minutes away, the Lake Constance promenade opens onto the water, where sailboats glide across the border between Switzerland and Germany. At the harbor, don’t miss the Imperia Statue, a 9-meter-tall rotating sculpture by artist Peter Lenk — a witty tribute to the Council of Constance (1414–1418), one of the most important religious gatherings in Europe’s medieval history. Nearby, boutiques, local bakeries, and art galleries make the town perfect for a relaxed stroll and a light lunch before continuing your journey.
From Konstanz, your driver will take you west toward Schaffhausen, where the landscape changes — the calm lake giving way to forested hills and river valleys. Soon you’ll hear it before you see it: the Rhine Falls, Europe’s largest waterfall, thundering over limestone cliffs.
The Rhine Falls are a natural wonder of pure power — 23 meters high and 150 meters wide, with turquoise water surging at a rate of up to 600 cubic meters per second. Walk along the panoramic platforms, which bring you close enough to feel the mist on your face, or take a short boat ride to the central rock, where you can climb a small staircase to the top for a 360° view of the falls. Above, the Schloss Laufen castle overlooks the cascade, offering not just history but one of the most dramatic balconies in Switzerland.
After experiencing the full force of nature, your driver will begin the return journey to St. Gallen, passing peaceful vineyards and lakeside villages bathed in the afternoon light. By evening, you’ll be back in the city — carrying with you two vivid memories: the calm reflection of Lake Constance and the unstoppable energy of the Rhine Falls.
