Full Tour Description
Your adventure begins in Bad Ragaz, where your private driver picks you up for a full-day exploration of the Graubünden Alps — a region famed for its contrasts: medieval towns, mountain roads and lakes that seem painted by hand.
The first stop is Chur, often called the Gateway to the Alps and recognized as Switzerland’s oldest city. Settled since prehistoric times and continuously inhabited for over 5,000 years, Chur’s cobblestone lanes and colorful houses create an atmosphere both historic and vibrant. Wander through the Old Town, where boutiques, wine shops and quiet cafés sit beneath the shadow of the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption, founded in the 12th century. If you’re curious about local history, the Rätisches Museum offers insights into Roman ruins and alpine life across the centuries.
Leaving Chur, the road begins its ascent toward Arosa — one of Switzerland’s most scenic alpine drives. The route climbs from 600 m to nearly 1,800 m in just 30 kilometers, winding through 360 curves that reveal dramatic valleys and waterfalls at every turn. Once a humble alpine village, Arosa became a popular health resort in the 19th century and today is known for its peaceful lakes and clean mountain air.
At the top, you’ll find the crystalline Obersee Lake, where ducks glide across reflections of snowy peaks. You can enjoy a lakeside walk, a coffee at one of the chalets or, if time allows, take a short cable car up the Arosa Weisshorn (2,653 m) for panoramic views stretching all the way to Liechtenstein and Austria. On clear days, the Alps seem endless, rolling like waves to the horizon.
After descending back through the alpine forest, your next destination is Flims, a resort area that feels like a secret oasis. Here lies Caumasee, often called the Pearl of Flims — a natural lake fed by underground springs and surrounded by dense pine forest. Its turquoise water changes hue with the light, shifting between emerald and sapphire. A short walk from the parking area leads to a wooden terrace and bathing area where visitors can relax, take photos, or swim in the warmer months. Nearby viewpoints offer glimpses of the Flims Forest and the striking Rhine Gorge (Ruinaulta) — known as the “Swiss Grand Canyon.”
As the sun begins to dip, your driver takes you on a gentle return journey to Bad Ragaz, passing alpine meadows, vineyards and distant peaks. It’s the kind of day that reminds you why Switzerland’s small distances contain such immense beauty — a perfect harmony of landscape, culture and quiet moments.
