Full Tour Description

Morning Departure from Bern – Lakes and Legends of Lake Thun

Your driver will collect you directly from your hotel in Bern, and the journey begins south through the quiet Swiss countryside. Soon, the road meets the shimmering waters of Lake Thun, one of Switzerland’s most beautiful and storied landscapes.

The drive follows the panoramic northern shore, where sheer cliffs rise above the lake and each curve opens a new postcard view. Your first stop is at Schloss Oberhofen am Thunersee, a graceful lakeside castle whose turrets seem to float above the water. The reflection of its pointed roofs in the lake, framed by distant peaks, makes it one of the most photographed spots in Switzerland.

A few minutes further lies the entrance to the St. Beatus Caves, a place where legend and nature meet. According to folklore, a dragon once lived here — now, a waterfall cascades from the cave mouth into the lake below. A short walk to the viewing terrace offers an incredible panorama of water, forest, and sky.

After a brief stop, the journey continues toward Interlaken and the alpine gateway of Grindelwald, where your ascent to the Top of Europe begins.

Midday Ascent – Journey to the Top of Europe

At Grindelwald Terminal, your private driver will assist you with boarding the Eiger Express, a state-of-the-art tri-cable gondola that glides silently above forests and meadows. As you rise higher, the valley unfolds below — dotted with wooden chalets, alpine pastures, and the sound of distant cowbells. Then, the view transforms: the Eiger North Face towers above, so close it feels like you could reach out and touch the rock.

This is not merely transportation — it’s an experience of flight, a gradual merging of sky and earth. The crisp air, the play of clouds, and the vast scale of the landscape create a sense of awe that deepens with every passing minute.

After about fifteen minutes, you’ll reach the Eiger Glacier Station, where you’ll transfer to the historic Jungfrau Railway — an engineering triumph more than a century old. The train climbs through the mountain itself, winding upward in a series of tunnels carved from solid rock. Between stops, small viewing windows reveal flashes of glacier and sky — a reminder that you are literally inside the Alps.

When you emerge, light floods the carriage: you’ve arrived at the Jungfraujoch Summit Station, standing 3,454 meters above sea level.

At the Summit – Where the Sky Begins

Stepping out onto the platform feels like entering another world. The air is thin and pure, the snow blindingly white, and silence fills the space between the peaks. You are standing at the very top of Europe — surrounded by an endless panorama of glaciers, ridges, and deep blue sky.

Spend around five hours exploring the summit at your own pace.

Start with the Sphinx Observatory, perched above the glacier like a crown of steel and glass. The viewing terrace offers a 360° panorama of the Bernese Alps and the Aletsch Glacier, stretching 22 kilometers into the horizon. On clear days, you can see as far as France’s Vosges and Germany’s Black Forest.

Continue to the Ice Palace, an underground labyrinth of frozen sculptures and shimmering corridors carved directly into the glacier. Each step echoes softly against the ice — a quiet journey through a living piece of the mountain.

Then, walk out onto the Glacier Plateau, where the Swiss flag waves proudly in the alpine wind. The view is infinite: snowfields, sunlight, and silence. Take photos, breathe the cold air, and feel what it means to be truly above the world.

When hunger calls, settle into the summit restaurant, where panoramic windows open onto the glacier. Enjoy a warm meal or a rich Swiss hot chocolate as clouds drift by at eye level. Before descending, visit Lindt Swiss Chocolate Heaven — the highest chocolate boutique in the world, where the scent of cocoa mingles with mountain air.

Every moment at Jungfraujoch feels eternal — a reminder that true luxury is time, stillness, and perspective.

Afternoon Descent – Returning from the Sky

When you’re ready, begin the descent via the Jungfrau Railway and Eiger Express. The journey downward offers an entirely new kind of beauty: sunlight spilling across glaciers, shadows moving over the cliffs, and the valley below slowly reappearing — green, alive, and human again.

Back at Grindelwald Terminal, your driver will greet you and suggest a short village stop. Walk the quiet streets, browse local shops, or enjoy a drink while the peaks of the Eiger and Wetterhorn tower above.

The return to Bern follows the same Lake Thun panoramic road, now bathed in warm evening light. As you pass once more by Beatus Caves and Schloss Oberhofen, the lake reflects gold and silver hues — a peaceful close to a day spent between earth and sky.

You’ll arrive back in Bern in the early evening, with photographs on your phone and something deeper — a calm that only the mountains can give.
