Full Tour Description

Departing from your hotel in Konstanz, this exclusive full-day tour begins on the northern shore of Lake Constance — one of Europe’s largest freshwater lakes shared between Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. As you cross the border into Switzerland, the scenery transforms: from lowland vineyards and apple orchards of Thurgau to the rolling foothills of Central Switzerland. The drive, around three and a half hours, is itself part of the experience — a panorama of alpine lakes, traditional farmhouses, and distant snow peaks.

Your first destination is Lucerne, often called “the most beautiful city in Switzerland.” Situated on the Reuss River, Lucerne became a symbol of the country’s identity after joining the Swiss Confederation in 1332. Its Old Town still preserves the medieval street plan and distinctive guild houses, decorated with Renaissance murals. The Chapel Bridge, one of Europe’s oldest covered wooden bridges, is the centerpiece of Lucerne’s postcard image. It connects both sides of the city and has become a national landmark since its reconstruction after the 1993 fire.

Nearby stands the Lion Monument, carved into natural sandstone rock — described by Mark Twain as “the saddest and most moving piece of stone in the world.” It commemorates the Swiss Guards who died during the French Revolution and represents Lucerne’s link between heroism and history.

From here, you can take an optional one-hour cruise across Lake Lucerne. The lake is surrounded by four historic Swiss cantons and is known for its changing shapes — fjord-like inlets, steep cliffs, and green bays. On board, you’ll pass the Rigi and Pilatus mountains and enjoy views that inspired artists such as Turner and Goethe. The cruise also sails near the legendary site of William Tell’s Chapel, marking where the Swiss folk hero escaped his captors.

After returning to Lucerne, your driver will take you to the base of Mount Pilatus, the city’s most iconic natural monument. Rising directly above the lake, Pilatus has long been surrounded by myths. Medieval chronicles tell of dragons living in its caves and healing springs on its slopes. Today, visitors can reach the summit either by the world’s steepest cogwheel railway from Alpnachstad or by panoramic cable cars from Kriens. Both routes offer stunning views — across forests, meadows, and alpine lakes — before arriving at the top station at 2,128 meters.

At the summit, walk the short Dragon Trail and explore the observation decks that reveal up to 73 alpine peaks on clear days. The Pilatus Kulm Hotel, built in 1890, remains one of Switzerland’s great mountaintop landmarks, combining historic architecture with spectacular terraces. You’ll have free time for a light meal, coffee, or simply to take photos of the ever-changing clouds drifting above Lucerne and the lake.

After descending, your driver will meet you for the return journey to Konstanz. The route passes again through the rolling hills and lakes of northern Switzerland — an easy, relaxed drive that lets you reflect on the day’s highlights. In one trip, you’ve crossed borders, climates, and centuries of history — from the calm waters of Lake Constance to the legendary peaks of Pilatus.
