Full Tour Description
Your driver will pick you up directly from your hotel in Montreux, where the morning light dances over the vineyards of Lavaux. The journey begins along the lakeshore, passing the Château de Chillon, one of Switzerland’s most photographed castles, before turning inland toward the Bernese Oberland. The road climbs through the Simmental Valley, known for its green pastures and traditional wooden chalets carved with flowers and family crests — a true postcard of Swiss heritage.
After about 2.5 hours, you’ll reach Interlaken, perfectly set between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. The town has been a famous tourist destination since the 19th century, when Victorian travelers came for “the air of the Alps.” Walk along Höhematte Park, framed by snow-covered peaks, or take a short detour to Iseltwald, a tranquil village on the shores of Lake Brienz. The turquoise color of the water is not an illusion — it’s the result of glacial minerals suspended in the meltwater.
From Interlaken, a scenic 20-minute drive brings you into Lauterbrunnen Valley, where the cliffs rise nearly 800 meters above the valley floor. This is one of the most dramatic landscapes in the Alps — so striking that J.R.R. Tolkien used it as the inspiration for Rivendell in The Lord of the Rings. The Staubbach Falls, visible from the main street, cascade like a silver veil, while the Trümmelbach Falls, hidden inside the mountain, thunder through narrow rock tunnels. The entire valley feels like a cathedral of nature — steep, echoing, and alive with the sound of water.
If time allows, you may take a cable car up toward Mürren, one of the most scenic car-free villages in Switzerland, perched high above the valley with panoramic views of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau trio.
From Lauterbrunnen, the journey continues up the winding alpine road to Grindelwald, a resort surrounded by glaciers and green pastures. This picturesque village lies at the foot of the Eiger North Face, the most legendary climbing wall in Europe — nearly 1,800 meters high and once considered impossible to conquer. Even if you’re not a mountaineer, Grindelwald offers plenty of ways to feel the Alps: scenic walks, small cafés serving homemade pastries, or a visit to the Glacier Gorge (Gletscherschlucht), where ice-blue water carves through 250-million-year-old limestone.
In summer, visitors can ride the First cable car for stunning views over the valley and test their courage on the First Cliff Walk. In winter, the slopes transform into one of Switzerland’s most famous ski regions, part of the Jungfrau Ski Area.
As the afternoon light softens, you’ll begin the return drive to Montreux, following the same route back through valleys and lakes. The contrast between the alpine grandeur and the Riviera calm is what makes this journey so unforgettable — a day that connects snow peaks, waterfalls, and vineyards in a single circle of beauty.
